This film, so much to think about. If you are local, rent it before March 12 and then hustle on down to the Arts Center to see his work.... and the whole Shadows of Minidoka exhibit. Really, worth it, promise.

Friday morning in our house started like this - quiet, peaceful, serene.

And Friday night in our house looks like this - busy, crowded, piles of shoes at the steps, loud boy whoops through the house, grazing in the kitchen, group of girls to and from the movie.

I hope you weekend has just the right amount of all of these things.  We have had a week of sick people, the last one (a grownup) is turning the corner tonight.... here's hoping you avoid the February bugs!

the month of love...

I'll be honest, I'm not such a huge fan of February.  It seems that someone is always sick, the weather is up and down, the sand - dirt - snow is all through the house and all over the dog.  It is a long month, for being so short.  But I do love the days when you walk outside and hear the birds and it actually smells like spring.  The first nights of the season when our meals are grilled, fresh and quick on the table.  All of the basketball seasons start to wind down and we get to move the patio furniture back to the deck.... not washed yet, just moved.  So, February.... I have a love/hate relationship with you.  You're like the tunnel part of that "light at the end of the tunnel" saying.

Are you waiting for the light at the end of the tunnel?  These might help pass the time....

Winterness  - these ladies are picturing and writing about winter in Vermont.  Love this.

Reading this to prepare for this.

And music.... listening to this show...... a lot.

Tonight was a little bit rough, both kinds of rough - the physical kind and the emotional kind.  The youngest guy in our house had a basketball game, and that is big fun and excitment for him.  He loves to play, he loves to be on a team, he loves it when people want to come watch his games.    Tonight my parents and a good family friend all came to his game and right at the end, our guy got an intentional foul called on him.  He fought back tears, he hated being singled out.   All these years I have struggled with team sports, I have never been very comfortable on a team, I'm much happier in individual sports.  As soon as I saw how he felt being in the spotlight alone, I understood.... his comfort is in a team.  I am going to have to learn to enjoy these team sports more, I am the one who was uncomfortable, who felt like I might let the whole team down.  He doesn't feel that way, so I don't have to sit in the stands and worry that he does.  Isn't it nice when you realize that some of your "stuff" didn't get passed on to your kids!

coffee shop

In general, I don't need much.  It is pretty easy for me to go without something if I need to.  Things are pretty laid back around here...... except for my coffee.  I have a favorite shop and a favorite blend, I might be a coffee snob.  Maybe I am wrong about this, but I think that might surprise the people who know me?

It's Friday, and I love Saturday mornings with my coffee, so today I took my camera when I went to buy my beans.  Coffee snob and weirdo picture taker in busy public places, still my friend?

As long as we're talking about coffee.... we were with a group of friends recently and somehow our morning coffee routines, as couples, starting being discussed.  I thought it was very sweet that each of us had rituals.  The one at our house is simple, no words are spoken.  I make the coffee at night before we go to bed and I set the timer so it is ready when we wake.  He gets up and sets my cup out for me every morning, he knows the cup I like.  On Valentine's Day, there is usually a little note by it.

Enjoy your weekend.  Warm weather is on the horizon around here.

day after

Yesterday there was quiet.  The whole city, midwest even, paused.  Well, today is a new day and there are ramps to be built, driveways and side walks to clear and most of all... ramps. to. be. built!  The city has helped the cause, the giant pile of snow from the street was perfectly placed right at the bottom of our front hill....... here. we. go.
